From Small-Bottle Honey to New Market Opportunities

A Customer Visit to Zhicheng Apiculture

Zhicheng Apiculture

On October 11, Zhicheng Apiculture welcomed two overseas customers to our honey factory in Hefei, China.

The story of this visit actually started much earlier.

They first contacted us because they were interested in our small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) range. As our online conversations developed, the discussion quickly moved beyond packaging and price.

We talked about product quality, certifications, food-grade packaging, ingredient documentation, traceability, production control and, very importantly, how a honey manufacturer can prove that the honey it supplies is true honey.

After many detailed and professional conversations, the customers decided to visit our factory and supply chain in person.

For us, this was also a good opportunity to show how our small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) is made and how retail honey products can support brands looking for new market opportunities.

From Raw Honey to Small-Bottle Honey (Pocket Honey)

The factory visit started with our raw honey storage area.

At the time of the visit, approximately 1,500 MT of raw honey was stored on site.

From there, the customers visited the raw honey processing area, the small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) production line and the packaging area.

They were also able to taste freshly produced small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) directly from the production line.

Seeing the production process in person gives a very different understanding of a product.

It allows a buyer to see where the raw materials are stored, how the honey is processed, how the bottles are filled and packed, and how quality control is managed during production.

For customers developing a private label honey project, these details matter just as much as the appearance of the final product.

Many Questions Came Back to One Thing: Can It Be Verified?

Before the visit, many of our discussions had already focused on quality and honey authenticity.

One example was the NFC fruit juice used in some of our flavoured small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) products.

The customers asked whether the NFC juice supplier could provide supporting quality documentation.

The answer was yes.

They asked whether the honey and other ingredients could be traced through the supply chain.

Yes.

Relevant raw materials, production batches and finished products are managed through our traceability system.

They also asked whether cleaning of the production line was recorded.

Again, yes.

Cleaning is carried out according to production procedures, and corresponding records are maintained so that each production process can be checked and verified.

For customers requiring a greater level of production transparency, authorized access to production-line monitoring can also be discussed under agreed conditions.

These may look like small details, but they are often exactly what serious food buyers want to know.

A certificate is important.

But buyers also want to know what actually happens behind the certificate.

Where does the honey come from?

Can the raw materials be traced?

Can ingredient suppliers provide supporting documents?

Are production and cleaning procedures recorded?

Can what a supplier says online also be verified when a customer visits the factory?

These questions formed an important part of our discussions.

From the Honey Factory to the Beekeepers

The visit did not stop at the factory.

After seeing the production of small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) and other honey products, we also accompanied the customers to one of the beekeeping bases connected with our supply system.

There, they met local beekeepers and learned more about how Zhicheng Apiculture works with beekeeping cooperatives and professional beekeeping households.

October is not the main nectar-flow season in this region, so active honey harvesting could not be seen during the visit.

However, the customers were able to observe the collection of bee pollen and royal jelly and experience the environment in which the beekeepers manage their colonies.

This is an important part of understanding honey.

Honey does not begin on a filling line.

It begins with bees, flowers, beekeepers and the management of the raw material long before it reaches the factory.

For a honey supplier, traceability therefore needs to extend beyond production and packaging.

Why True Honey Matters

One subject came up repeatedly throughout our conversations: honey authenticity.

We understand why international buyers are increasingly concerned about it.

Honey adulteration and syrup blending have created difficulties across the global honey market. For buyers, retailers and consumers, simply seeing the word "honey" on a product is no longer always enough.

So when a customer asks:

"How can you prove that this is true honey?"

we consider that a reasonable and necessary question. The answer cannot depend on only one certificate.

It comes from a combination of:

traceable honey sourcing

production and batch records

quality-control procedures

testing

transparency throughout the supply chain

supplier documentation

Zhicheng Apiculture has also maintained long-term manufacturing cooperation with several well-known brands in the Chinese market.

For commercial confidentiality reasons, these brand names are not publicly disclosed. However, long-term cooperation with established customers has continuously required stable production, consistent quality and reliable documentation.

Our position on honey remains simple:

We only produce and sell true honey.

Lowering quality simply to make a quotation look more attractive is not the kind of business we want to build.

Instead, the goal is to offer a sincere price based on genuine honey, while giving customers the quality, traceability and transparency needed for long-term cooperation.

Small-Bottle Honey (Pocket Honey), Bigger Market Possibilities

This visit started because of interest in one product: small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey).

But the conversation eventually became much broader.

It covered private label development, ingredients, packaging, certifications, production management, traceability and the possibility of using retail honey products to support expansion into new markets.

That is also what makes small-bottle honey (Pocket Honey) interesting for international brands.

It is not simply honey in a smaller package.

With the right formulation, packaging and private label strategy, it can become a convenient, retail-ready product for different consumer occasions and different markets.

For Zhicheng Apiculture, the most valuable part of this visit was not simply showing a production line.

It was giving the customer the opportunity to compare what had been discussed online with what could actually be seen on site.

Sometimes the best way to understand a honey supplier is simply to come and see it for yourself.

Three Generations, One Commitment to Real Honey.
